Our Return

Well, we came home. And Oro purred and purred and purred. There's a picture here, plus a picture of the B&B.

Guess what else happened? We accidentely left Patrick's jacket and my high-heeled boots in the closet in our room. Guess what was in the jacket pocket? Our apartment keys. We didn't realise this until it was two hours into our trip and not worth turning around, so we called the apartment call service to get maintenance to let us in and called the B&B so they would mail us the jacket and boots. Heh. Oh well. Everyone was nice about it, and we got home before dark to comfort the poor little Oro cat. He wouldn't leave us alone for awhile. He's better now, though. Chasing my feet an' all that. Here ya go.

Day 2!

Well, today we went up north to Lake Placid. The drive alone was worth the trip. (That and take pictures is pretty much all we did.) Anywho, here's a few of our pictures. We filled up the memory card in the camera. :P The mountain with all the cars in front of it is the Olympic Mountain a.k.a. Whiteface Mountain, where the olympic athletes train and where the Olympics were held in 1980-something. (Normal people ski there, too.) Mostly its pretty pictures along the roadside. As you can see, Chipper tried to return to the wild. He didn't like it much, though, and came back. We're just relaxing for the rest of the day.

Yesterday we went to the Hyde Collection: www.hydecollection.org, which was super-spiffy. They had REALLY neat old art. There were thumbles made by Paul Revere, 1500s tapestries, rennaisance furniture, and a 12th century stained-glass window depicting (in part) a lamp which was hanging behind it. Neat-o.

Also went to the Chapman Historical Museum: www.chapmanmuseum.org, which was fun. It was a middle-class (psh!) house built in the late 1800s.

ALSO we went to Aimee's Dinner and a Movie: www.aimiesdinnerandmovie.com, which was really neat. You have a few booths in a real theater, and are served just before the show starts so you can eat and watch the movie at the same time. Its not nearly as distracting as it sounds. We saw Good Night, and Good Luck. It was a good movie. Go see! Also, good food.

Ta ta!

More Piccys

Look what WE got!

Snow! Hahahahaha.

Actually, these piccys are from Lake George (though it did snow in Rochester.) More pictures will follow, when I feel like it. We'll tell you all about the B&B later, too. For now, here's a few pictures of Lake George and one of the Chapman Historical Museum. And one of our new stuffed woodchuck. Enjoy!

How Much Wood Would a Wood Chuck Chuck if a Wood Chuck Could Chuck Wood?

Hi! My name is Chipper. I came from the Chapman Historical Museum in Glens Falls, New York. I cost the price of two coffees.

Armoire with Doors Closed

Okie dokie. Here's a picture of the armoire with the doors closed.

We Gots the Armoire!

Finally, we got an armoire! We really needed it. Anywho, they delivered it and set it up today. Isn't it purty? No pictures with the doors closed, yet. It needs to settle and its leaning forward right now. We only have two keys to lock them closed with. :P As you can see, the kitties had a field day with it. Oro was climbing around before they were even done knocking it together. Its a European (we're pretty sure its not antique: they would have had a date on the tag if it were) and it knocks down for easy transportation. Its solid oak and purty. For a size reference: if I (Melanie) stand flat footed in the center, I can reach up and curl the very last digits of my fingers around the leaf-carving-thingy. Yay! Oh, and the shelves to the right are adjustable.

Da New Armoire

Yay! Purty armoire.

We Gots a Mac!!!!

Weeee!!!! You can see pictures below, or check out the specs at Apple. We gots the 15" PowerBook G4. Just the basic version listed, no upgrades. But its still pretty spiffy. Also, we only paid about $1599, not $1999, like they've got. Patrick bought it at the school, and they said it was marked down 'cause a new line was coming out. Anywho... Happy, happy! Its so spiffy. Its now the graphics computer. Apples are known for their graphics capability, plus this has the best graphics card of all our computers, anyway. Not a gaming comp, though. It even comes with iMovie! iMovie does all the stuff those trial downloads did for movie editing, so no more time limits. Yay! Also, it was easy to get it to work with my tablet AND we can transfer files back and forth with the Windows machines. Macs do have a different GUI layout, and keyboard usage, but the learning curve is fairly shallow. Delete = backspace, ctrl= right click (there is no right mouse button), apple logo= ctrl. The navigation is different, but it was easy to figure out. I didn't have to look anything up. I like having all my favourite programs down in the icon bar so I don't have to go to the desktop or the program list. If you minimize something, that particular window goes to an icon next to the trash can. Oh, oh. AND it comes with Zapfino! Hee. It has about the same number of built in fonts as a Windows machine, but it has Zapfino, so that makes it ten times better automatically. :P Zapfino is, by the way, the best script font in existence. Its as pretty as a volante font, but much easier to read. If you see a nice, flowy, readable script font and think "oh, pretty!" its probably Zapfino. So happy. Okay, okay. You can look at the pictures. See below!

Happy, happy.

Edit: Zapfino. It doesn't come with the ornaments and extras, but that sort of thing is only for designers who buy the whole suite, and its only useful for printed work, like posters.

Da Screenshot

In my opinion, Apple has much better visual designers than Microsoft. Isn't this pretty? It has a much better selection of pretty backgrounds, and I think the menu bars are pretty. 'Course, Vista looked like it would be a bit better than XP, but still. Puurrrty. I've even got all my favourite programs down in the icon bar.

Da 'Puter from Above and Behind

The apple logo is right side up when the computer is open, so this is the back. The logo glows when the computer is on. Hee.

Da Open 'Puter

See? So purrrty.

Da Keyboard

Da purty keyboard lights. The keyboard has an ambient light sensor that tells it when to turn on. (It's on the left. The keyboard thinks it needs to turn on the lights if I hold my hand over the left side of the keyboard.)
